Change Detection Strategy

The single biggest performance improvement comes from switching to OnPush change detection. By default, Angular checks every component on every event. OnPush tells Angular to only check when input references change or events originate from the component itself. This reduces change detection cycles from thousands to dozens.

Lazy Loading and Route-Level Code Splitting

Every feature module should be lazy-loaded. The initial bundle should contain only the shell and the landing page. Use the Angular CLI automatic route-level code splitting to ensure each lazy-loaded module is a separate chunk. Monitor your bundle size with webpack-bundle-analyzer.

RxJS Optimization

Unsubscribed observables are the most common source of memory leaks in Angular applications. Use the async pipe wherever possible, and implement a destroy$ pattern for manual subscriptions. For high-frequency streams, use operators like debounceTime, throttleTime, and distinctUntilChanged to reduce unnecessary emissions.

Server-Side Rendering

Angular Universal provides server-side rendering for improved initial load performance and SEO. The trade-off is increased server complexity. For internal enterprise applications, the benefits may not justify the cost. For public-facing portals, SSR is essential.
